Color Picker FAQs

What's the difference between HEX, RGB and HSL? HEX (e.g. #1aad9f) is a 6-digit code used almost everywhere in web and app design. RGB expresses the same color as Red/Green/Blue intensity values from 0-255, which is easier to read when you're adjusting a color manually. HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) is the format designers prefer when they want to create shades of the same color, since you can just change the lightness value and keep the hue fixed.

Why does the color I pick look slightly different on another screen? This tool reads the exact pixel value stored in your image file, which is accurate. What can vary is how different screens render that value — a phone display and a calibrated design monitor can show mild differences even for an identical HEX code. If you're matching a brand color for print, cross-check the value against the brand's official style guide rather than relying on how it looks on your screen.

Can I pick a color from a screenshot or a logo with transparency? Yes. Upload any PNG, JPG or WebP file — including screenshots. For PNGs with transparent areas, clicking a fully transparent pixel will return no color, so click on a visible part of the logo or graphic.
